This is a very frustrating problem! I have a small home network with several dual boot Ubuntu / Windows computers. I have recently upgraded my Broadband connection and the new router permits the direct attachment of an external USB drive which can back up all of the household's computers.
I have 3 ubuntu linux computers each with a wireless card. I don't have a router and I don't need to connect to the Internet. Can I make one of my linux computers as an AccessPoint, Run DHCP server and create a wireless netowork among these 3 devices? If so, can you please point me on where to start? Thank you.
Hi,
I know that the topic is not new but I couldn't solve it in no way.
I am running an Ubuntu 10.4 box with all ports forwarded on an internet router. The point is I can ping my PC with its external IP but no other services are accessible through it.
I have also checked my iptables rules. It's completely flushed and the default rule is set to ACCEPT.
I've touched on this elsewhere, but as it now seems necessary to go in a different direction I'll post here to follow up.
I have two PC's, one of which operates via Windows 7, the other an older unit in which I've been indulging my new passion for Ubuntu.
Hi,
I need to back up the data my companies three critical servers.
All of the servers are running Ubuntu and need to backup to the same external drive.
I'm thinking of just tarballing the relevent files and using a chron to run each backup once a week.
The problem I am running into is that I can't find anything about pathing from the two minor servers through the majoe server and into the externa

I moved a bunch of files (Pictures, music, etc) over to an external hard drive from my Ubuntu installation. I'm now trying to move those files from my external drive to a windows 7 computer but I'm unable to move them. It's as though windows will not accept the files and it won't let me drag them over. Any help would be most appreciated.
I have two desktop computers, a Dell running ubuntu 10.04, and an Acer running win 7.
During the update from Precise to the latest beta of Quantal, an age-old tryout of TOR obviously interfered with my upgrade.
I de-installed TOR after the upgrade, but now I cannot connect to external computers or ip addresses.
The internal stuff works fine; I can use the laptop to configure the router, see it's web page etc.
