I have two hard drives in my computer. The first is a 128GB ssd with windows 7 installed. The second is a 1TB, used for file storage etc. I decided to wipe the second hard drive and install ubuntu onto it. Installation went fine, until my computer restarted.
In my bios settings the disk with ubuntu was set as the master boot.
Hi!
I just got a new desktop computer, and wanted to make it a dual boot.
I have been running Ubuntu for years on an old computer. But I am still a novice especially with the technical stuff.
Anyway...
The new computer came with a 2 TB hard drive with Windows 7 installed.

Hello, I am a new ubuntu user. I installed ubuntu OS dual boot with windows 7 for school and my external hard drive which I have connected all the time stops working. When I open My computer in windows 7, I see the local disk that corresponds to my external drive (name changed from MyBook to local disk:F).
I have a Windows 7 computer. This is what I did:
Using Windows Disk Management, shrunk the available hard drive producing a partition more than large enough for Ubuntu.
Changed the boot order in BIOS to CD, USB, HDD.
Inserted Ubunto 12.04 disk, launched Ubuntu.
Chose "Install alongside windows 7".
Successfully installed Ubuntu, restarted, and it goes straight to Ubuntu.
Welcome back to the daring adventures of TalkUbuntu! Here is the lowdown:
Trouble finding a hard drive to install Ubuntu 12.04 on.
As you can see, the 3.74 GB drive is the only one that is showing up. It seems that this is the USB that I am running Ubuntu from, and not an actual drive from the computer. Same thing happens when I try to install Ubuntu. The USB (with no free space) is the only drive that shows up.
I just moved and decided to keep my old hard drive with Precise installed on the first partition (now sda1) and my /home on sda3 (swap in the middle) but to leave my old computer and put my hard drive into a new one.
I'm new to Ubuntu. I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a USB flash drive. It boots fine
from the USB stick. But if I remove it and boot again, Window 7 should boot. Well it doesn't. Seems like the hard disk is not there any more. Must have done something wrong while installing Ubuntu. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 1410 without a DVD reader.
The USB flash drive is a 64G Sandisk Cruzer.
