Hello ubuntuforums, I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop, I started out with ubuntu 10.04 so gnome classic was the desktop environment of my choice, I dislike unity and gnome 3 isn't my cup of tea so to say.
After I installed a package called gnome-panel to enable gnome classic I went on to try to get my eyefinity setup to work, without success.

How do you install gnome classic like in Backtrack 5 ? I loved classic gnome and unity is too well... bloat for me. And I tried mate buts its kinda incomplete. So how do get the "old" gnome with all its features ?
Im using Ubuntu 12.04
I have just got a new netbook and decided to do a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04, I then proceeded to install the gnome shell.
I have upgraded my RR setup with the new Gnome3.7 branch.
Here I use the Gnome3 Staging PPA.
Well after upgrading everything, I noticed that the session Gnome Classic (No effects) does not work anymore.
However the session Gnome Classic works just fine.
Of course I could not upgrade the packages gnome-panel, gnome-panel-data and libpanel-applet-4-0. So these are still v. 3.6.2.
I'm planning on installing Ubuntu 12.04 on on my main computer soon, but before doing that, I ran it in a virtual machine to see about getting the old Gnome UI on it.
I've been searching the forums and google for a while and nothing seems to work. I have a top and bottom panel in ubuntu 12.04 gnome classic using the default ambiance theme.
My top panel has all my most used apps on but they are all the same size as the panel and touching each other. I'd like to reduce them and space them out a bit.
Anyone managed this and know how to do it?
Thanks.
Hi. I keep seeing guides and screenshots referring to accessing "Startup Applications" in 12.04 via the user menu at the end of the top panel. However, like the new "Privacy" app in "System Settings", I never got the updated menu with the upgrade to 12.04, so have to launch it via its command (gnome-session-properties).
How do I rectify this?
This quick tutorial will show you how you can lock down and prevent changes to gnome panel in Ubuntu.
