[ubuntu] Chrome disappeared.

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have a netbook that was running XP. It caught a virus. I uses DOD Twister to zap the hard drive and I also destroyed the Master Boot Record and reinstalled it for XP. The virus came back so it must have something in the bios. Because of this I switched to Ubuntu. I thought that Ubuntu would prevent viruses from reading my credit card number etc. I used DASH to get CHROME. I ran my system for a week opening and closing my netbook without restarting. One day chrome just disappeared from the program strip on the left of the screen. Is Ubuntu susceptible to viruses or did I try its patients by (Hardware)

I have a dual boot computer. The WindowsXP "side" has been infected with a rootkit virus. So far UBUNTU has not been affected to my knowledge. I have not yet been able to remove the virus from the WindowsXP "side". I am thinking of deleting the NTFS partition and have the computer fully dedicated to UBUNTU.

I know that Ubuntu is immune to virus so there is no question of it getting infected while browsing the net.however i frequently transfer files from my pendrive (which i get from other virus infested computers) to my own laptop and save it on the data drive which is shared by both windows and ubuntu.i would like to know if there is a chance for windows viruses which might get saved and then infect

Can I 'catch' a Windows virus, while using Linux - so it will be saved on my hard drive and start working when I log in to Windows? I know it wouldn't affect the Linux itself. I am using 'Dual boot', not operating both systems at the same time.

When I'm using Chrome I'm getting fullscreen popup advertising even on sites that I am certain do not have it. I see the web site it is trying to load is "www.openadserving.com" in the status bar.

I suspect this is some kind of browser or OS virus.

How can I deal with this on Ubuntu? Is there some tool I can run to detect the virus? Or can I totally reinstall Chrome somehow?

1, I think I have picked up a virus. 2, I have downloaded Chrome, but can't install it. Running 12.04. Apparently, Bing and Firefox have both become virus-prone. I wanted to switch to Chrome, which is now considered one the the safest browsers, but, as stated, can't install it.

I run Chrome on my laptop and it randomly freezes shortly after opening a new tab. It is a rather old notebook (MSI Megabook GX600 Extreme) with a Core2Duo and 2GB RAM. It runs Ubuntu 12.10 64Bit.

As soon as the interface locks up, massive read / writes seem to occur as the hard drive starts to get noisy.

I installed ubuntu through usb on my netbook today (An aspire one D257 netbook). The thing is, this netbook boots into a chrome os kinda thing then to windows. After i installed ubuntu and restarted, the GRUB boot loader doesn't even show up. It boots to chrome os then Windows.
