I see the following error while trying run the command shown below. I read somewhere that my /boot partition is low on disk space. How can I increase the size of the /boot partition so I can install more software?
Based on some recommendations I read online, on install of a new (Ubuntu) system, I made my /boot partition separate from / and small in size (only around 50 MB). It makes sense to me that you would only need limited files in that partition, and the boot sequence only needs so much data initial data on boot so no need (or so goes my thinking) to make it much larger.
So I've gotten my dual boot between Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I've found that I might have underestimated the amount of space I need on my Ubuntu partition.
Hello,
I have a partition that I resized using gparted from my ubuntu and after that I installed windows 7 on that.
partition 1: ubuntu
partition 2: windows
partition 3: unallocated
-->
partition 1: ubuntu
partition 2: windows (bigger)
Now theres a bit of freespace left and I would like to resize my windows 7 partition to use that free space.
If I partition it from ubuntu with gparted, t
when i installed ubuntu 12.04 (on SSD), i used the alternate ISO to make two primary partitions:
first a /boot partition 300MB
second /encrypted partition (rest of the space on the SSD!)
when i update the system, more and more space is being used from the /boot partition and is currently 78% full.
Question: how do i clear out unused / old files from the /boot partition?
I dont want to be doin
how does one resize the boot partition to install win 8? i have a 30 gb boot ntfs. all other partitions are fat32 on my 750 gb hdd.
When I installed Ubuntu on this machine, I made the /boot partition only 100 MB. That has proven woefully inadequate, because every time a new linux-headers package comes down the pipe, I have to go uninstalling previous kernels to make enough space. I'd like to resize the /boot partition.
It's located at /dev/sdc5, which is right next to the / partition at /dev/sdc6.

Reboot, if everything works fine delete everything in the Ubuntu partition but /boot. Rename the /boot directory in the Arch install then shrink the ubuntu partition and mount it in the arch install as /boot.
Ihave ubuntu 11.10 on 1 TB hard drive /home is seperate 890 GB partition swap is 8GB and boot is 9 GB now afrter shrinking /home and moving swap I have unallocated 23 GB between / boot and swap. I need to expand boot to the unallocated space as am getting low disk space warning in boot partition as there is only 796 MB unused in that partition.
