I have a CD/DVD burner on my computer, but I am unable to burn any sort of DVD. Brasero tells me that it is "Not possible to write with the current set of plugins." What does this mean?

Could some one please help, i am trying to burn some data to a cd with brasero, but it just wont burn, i can get it to creat an iso image, but then it wont burn it. I have had a test box telling me that all the files required are not there.
I'd like to burn a few audio cds, but I have just 20-30 broken ones... that's all. The songs are in MP3 format.
I tried: K3b, it stuck during burn process en about 30%, with message "cdrecord has no permission to open the device".
I'm trying to burn a house cd and remove the track markers. I've converted the individual .mp3 to .wav (for my old *** car). The problem is when I burn the files to disk (using brasero) there is a "track gap"...a small second gap between tracks that I don't want there.
I recently installed Fedora 17. When I tried to burn Gparted Live CD ISO image, I noticed that Brasero does not recognize any of my optical drives:one DVD-RW burner PATA drive
one CD-RW burner PATA drive
Hi. I'm wanting to either create an "Open With" option (in Gnome and KDE) or a Nautilus (or preferably Nemo) Action to burn a selected ISO disc image using the command-line. For me, the default option in Nautilus to burn with Brasero hasn't worked in the last few years, but the "Write to Disc" Brasero extension near the bottom of the context menu has been fine.
