[ubuntu] cannot surf or ping my isp even though im connected

http://ubuntuforums.org – i refuse to accept that my problem does not have a solution. someone please help. the problem simply is that even while connected i cannot surf or ping my isp. my hardware is a huawei E156G usb modem. new clues: the system time gets changed and set back by 6hrs once i connect the modem. also wondering if its possibly ipv6 issues or maybe my isp does not assign me an ip address? its works ok in windows. nb i really know nothing about the ip part. I was trying to install Arch Linux with 3g modem. Previously downloaded usb_modswitch and wvdial and their dependencies. Booted acrh and installed them. Then copied my ubuntu's /etc/wvdial.conf in arch. Then I connect with wvdial and it says connected, modem indicator also says connected. But it is actually not! ping www.google.com says unknown host!

problem is that when i connect my modem on usb it will detected in mobile brodband connection manager as huawei brodband huawei mobile after that i will also fill the proper apn(bsnlnet) and no(*99#) and username(bsnlnet)Password is blank but when i connect it will prompt me for a passwo

I am connected to a router by wifi or lan. But every few moments (sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour) my connection to the internet breaks down. So in one moment I can surf with my firefox and have ping times of 20 ms (wifi) to the google server. And in the next moment I can't open any pages in any browser and the ping shows no new messages first and then "Destination Host Unreachable".

Running 2.6.29-gentoo-r1 on a Sun Ultrasparc 10 with a Sun Happy Meal on eth0 connected directly to my cable modem. Intermittently, with a frequency between a few hours and a few days, I lose internet connectivity.

pls help I have a PC with WIN7 and Ubuntu10.04, using Grub, it is connected thru a modem+switch. There are 2 other PC connected thru the swich, all able to surf using Win and Ubuntu. The problem with this particular PC is that it doesn't recognize the connection (Network Manager (N-M) has a red !). The Win OS did connect.

I'm running ubuntu 12.10 liveUSB on a lenovo b570e. It has an atheros wifi card that connects with my home network but I can't browse AT ALL.

My network is multiple clients --> router --> isp modem --> Internet

I can ping my router (192.168.0.1) but not my isp's modem(192.168.15.1).

.it says it's connected but when i surf through my browser, the pages are not available and i keep clicking refresh for 40 times (LITERALLY!) i got it working then after browsing for about 20 pages the internet is not working again and same process again on getting back the internet, and then I downgraded to ubuntu 10.04 LTS because it is supported for a long time!

I'm trying to help a friend that has some problem connecting to the Internet. the problem is like that :the eth0 is ok, when used with adsl modem and dialer connected without a problem. now he switched to cable modem which should give him ip. ifconfig shows nothing about ipv4 address.
