[ubuntu] cannot connect to wireless routers with security

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have a Dell 1210 (mini-12) that originally ran Ubuntu 8.04+LTS. Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY wireless internet adapter. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 to try to solve the following problem, but the problem still occurs. The computer easily connects to wireless routers without passwords. If there is a password, however, it comes up "Authentication required by wireless network." "WPA & WPA Personal" and has a blank where I enter the password. But then the "connect" button is dim and will not allow me to choose it. Only the "Cancel" button is a (Hardware)
