[ubuntu] Can only install Ubuntu 8.10

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have an Acer Travelmate 240 Laptop 2.6Ghz, 1Ghz Ram 40Gb HDD. Originally it had Win XP on it but I have put Linux on it many times. What has happened is that out of OS"S I have I am only able to load Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit. I would like to upgrade but find I cannot as none of my disks will start up . I tried to put back windows today but it seems like there is a fault on the 2nd disk. I thought if I could load one OS on I would be able to load one of the others but maybe the disks have a problem . Any help would be appreciated. (Hardware)

I have a Ubuntu server hosted website, and I've noticed lately that it randomly takes a while to load the site. It tends to do so after periods without use, and the initial load is what takes its time (Ive tested 24 seconds on first load). If I visit the site shortly after, i get load times of around 3-4 seconds.

I have a server that's running CentOS 5, and it will periodically (a couple of times a day) have enormous spikes in load, and the whole server will grind to a halt.

My laptop had winxp that was dual booting with ubuntu 12.10.

Installed win 8 Pro successfully, now win xp can't load. That's OK as I plan to junk it.

I still want ubuntu but it won;t load either. the wubildr.mbr in c:/ is there.

Have a C drive spilt into 3 parts: C/D/E. Ubuntu is on E.

The "ubuntu-gnome-12.10-desktop-i386" iso installer file is on E.

i had ubuntu 11.10 and windows 7 working perfect. 5 days ago upgrade to 12.04 lts. I leave it running and went to sleep. Next day a try to load it but the mouse on the laptop didn't work. so i kept using previous version. today i was doing some changes in backgrounds and updates. when i restart the computer a "debian.

While trying to replace vista on my laptop with Ubuntu via a boot disk, someone unplugged the computer and the installation was interrupted. I tried shutting down the PC and restarting, but found that not only was the PC giving me the "no OS" screen, but refused to load any Ubuntu disks.

Is there anything I can do to re-install Ubuntu?

I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my Laptop HP Compaq NX 7300. Now i want to load Windows XP but i cannot Get a Boot at Start Up. I am unable to load XP now.

Please help. I only have Ubuntu in my Laptop now. I use Virtual Box but there also Windows does not load.
