http://ubuntuforums.org – I need to set up a small office network that will consist of the following: 10 laptops and desktop running windows 7 1 desktop machine running Ubuntu desktop 12.04 I want all the windows 7 machines to be connected with ubuntu desktop, all i want is ubuntu desktop as a internet server, internet access will be directly coming to the ubuntu desktop and output lan to the router so user can access internet as per rules, (bandwidth, site block etc) as the ISA server having these function. Also i want to share hard drives for HR and Finance department. I want don't want to go with the server (Hardware)

I have two puters: desktop and laptop. Desk set to Windows 7 with Filezilla ftp server.Ftp is correctly configured. But when i am trying to access it from laptop Ubuntu 12.04 I get the message: No address associated with hosthame

All machines get internet from Asus WL500gpv2 router (192.168.1.1). Desktop (192.168.1.2) connected with wire and notebook (192.168.1.3) connected wirelessly.

I am setting up a samba server at work to be a fileserver for our windows network. It's all very basic, we have a mix of laptops and desktops running mainly windows 7 and a few Vista. Some connect wirelessly to the router, and the desktop and Ubuntu Server are on Cat 5.

I installed Ubuntu server yesterday and installed it with samba.

So here is what I want to do:

Set an Ubuntu Desktop box as a media center for my TV. Use the same box as a local network storage. Need to have VPN access to the same box from other outside computers.

The media center part is simple enough.

I am trying Ubuntu on a trial basis to see if I think I could use it in place of Windows. One of the things I can do in Windows is connect my XP laptop thru a wireless access point which is connected by ethernet cable to my desktop, which is set to share its internet connection. The desktop connects to the internet by dialup.
