i am not able to get my wifi working consistently in ubuntu. At times when wifi is switched on in windows and I switch to ubuntu, wifi networks are recognized. But if i try and turn on wifi in ubuntu, there is no change. I get the message that the wireless is disabled by the hardware switch and indeed I see no blue light to indicate that the wifi is on.
when i restart my Dell inspiron 5010 it do not detects the wifi drivers and the hotkey for turning the wifi card on is not working either. I am using proprietary drivers "Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA Wireless driver source from bcmwl-kernel-source (proprietary)".
I need to click and apply "Do not Use the device" and then switch back to the proprietary driver.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04(dual-boot)and I'm not able to connect to internet using Wifi since. Wifi works fine on Windows 7. I have watched a couple of videos on youtube about connecting to the wifi but no help.
I'm doing exaclty as told in this video and nothing else http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN8PrEbmct8.
My wifi is WEP 64Bit.
I'm new to Linux and just installed Ubuntu last night as a dual boot with Windows 7. When I first installed it using USB the WiFi worked. Then I figured out how to use the Software Updater and updated it, downloading about 200 MB of updates.
Then the WiFi stopped working. For the record, I've seen numerous threads about this same topic and have tried basically everything they have said to try.
I have a small issue with my Ubuntu 9.10 Beta. Actually all function keys ('FN' +) work quite well out of the box. No problem with sound volume, background light etc.
I'm trouble working wifi network,it works fine in windows but with ubuntu never works but works only in wired mode.
I have full knowledge on networking using windows, why am i getting issue connecting with ubuntu even my wifi card is compatible with linux os.
Note:works fine with windows, wifi on/network name and securuty is all done now i'm getting issue not working with ubuntu.
In both 11.10 and 11.04 it's been impossible for me to get my laptop (a DELL XPS with the broadcom 4311 wifi adapter)
I think i found the solution. This is for all the ubuntu users like me (noobius maximus) so please, no flaming by the super-experts.
It basically involves deleting all wifi drivers, reinstalling some wifi drivers and then refreshing your wifi config info.
I downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop and the WiFi light will not come on. It was working when I was using Ubuntu 10.03.
My laptop has a Broadcom BCM 4311 802.11 b/g wlan card.
I tried everything I could find and nothing works. If it helps, I am not a programmer. I'm just a novice.
Brad wrote:I hope this is the right place to ask for ChrunchBang 11. But when I start it up from the live USB it doesn't detect my wifi card. Ubuntu did this without any problems.I`m having Broadcom myself, and it`s a bit tricky. Ubuntu is the only one that delivers me wifi out of the box, but even with Ubuntu I loose it after the first dist-upgrade, it`s easy to fix though.
