Formatted my USB stick (8GB) using pendrivelinux to make the iso image bootable. Power on computer, get to Asus' awesome new BIOS screen, everything looks good so far. Recognizes both the SSD and the USB. Boot from USB, next screen has a black/white Ubuntu splash and options such as "Boot from this USB device" "Install Ubuntu on a hard drive" etc. Any option that I choose, will th (Hardware)

I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my new ASUS k55a laptop today, and somehow managed to lose access to all partitions on my computer. I tried boot-repair and reinstalling ubuntu but it's not helping. When I try to turn on my computer after the installation, it says to "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device" on a black screen.

Hey, everyone!

My problem isn't actually in Linux, but most people here seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers as well, so I figured I'd ask.

I have tried to boot from a USB drive using three different programs, LinuxLive USB creator, Universal USB creator, and UNetBootin. I am using a Dell Latitude E5410 running Windows 7 and am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.

Each time I select boot from USB device, I get to a menu with options to try Ubuntu without installing, boot into Ubuntu, and install on Hard Disk.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.4 onto an older computer. Upon trying to boot off the live CD, my monitor would go "out of range" (screen would turn black and display a hardware error message "out of range").

I turned on my computer this morning and found that all I saw was the bios splash screen. The BIOS had hung, there where no boot options displayed (normaly it says "F9 Boot Menu F10 Setup" etc).

I have had this problam before when one of my hard drives died, so I tried unplugging my main HD and my CD drive, still wouldn't boot.

To start off, I have bought a new Asus K55N laptop with windows 8 pre-installed. I am trying to install dual-boot Ubuntu 13.04 x64 and windows 8.

I'm trying to get Ubuntu 12.10 on my Asus K95V laptop, but i have issues. i have installed a bootable USB stick to boot ubuntu. When i launched, it gave me these 4 options:

I have tried the first two options, they both just give a black screen and do nothing.

Id like to know how to fix the black screen since i want a full install of Ubuntu.

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on an Asus p8z68 v-pro motherboard which is a UEFI bios. The install seems to have worked fine except for one thing, when restarting or shutting down it gets stuck at the Asus bios boot screen when starting up again (or blank screen if turning off the bios flash screen).
