Hey all, I'm new here :P
I've got two computers with a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04:
- Acer Aspire One D270 netbook, Intel Atom processor, 2 gb ram
- Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook, Intel Core 2 duo processor, 3 gb ram
And I've got the EXACT same issues on both:
- every minute or so, the screen freezes for 3 or 4 seconds. I'm not able to do anything, and everything on the screen stays still.
I installed Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop.
All of a sudden it rattles, squeels in a high pitch (for a few seconds), and then rattles (all the time) and then squeels a few seconds (cycle continues).
System won't boot or even enter boot menu if I choose that. I am now trying to boot from live cd - if it will do that then I know it's the HD that's fried.
I have made a clean install of Precise Pangolin on my desktop PC shortly after it was released in April and at some point after that I have started to experience an issue with the boot time being astounding 150 (sic!) seconds; in Oneiric the boot time was around ten seconds plus another ten GRUB waited before booting Ubuntu.
Visually, boot process seems go normally, though a BIOS logo stays on

When running glxgears with gnome classic the window pops up but the gears do not display, the framerate is extremely slow:

Hi I have a small test network that I'm using to do some number crunching for my dissertation. My network consists of three machines with intel gigabit network cards (all em drivers with two hosts setup as laggs) with default MTU settings etc... running Freebsd 9.1 and mpich2.
The issue:
I started using Ubuntu in 2009 and have been using it ever since. What I like about it:
Running on a laptop with a core 2 duo 1.2 GHz CPU and a maximum allowed 2GB of RAM, boot requires about 17 seconds from the GRuB menu. Halt takes 3 seconds flat. This laptop uses a 64GB Samsung SSD that looks like a mSATA, only bigger, and it's PATA.
Ok, Chackra Linux rocks... this is Claire Final 2012.12, original kernel and a few tweaks.Listen to that...Less than 49 seconds to reach a functional KDE desktop, in a monoprocessor, 1.9 Ghz.Image above shows Linux Kernel time to boot, ~5 seconds, plus Systemd units load times, all = ~ 4 seconds. Not bad :-). Note the top of graph showing the total time spent by it.
Please help.
My Ubuntu Precise Pangolin installation was booting up pretty fast, it takes about 10-15 seconds to boot until today.
When I turn on my PC this morning it was taking a very long time to boot maybe about 5 minutes that I decided to press the reset button then encountered unknown file system and grub rescue error.
The boot time is 141 seconds.
