[ubuntu] Boot Drive Not Recognized

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hey folks, I have an HP Ultrabook which was running Windows 7 and I wanted to dual boot it with Ubuntu. Everything was working fine until today, and I have no idea how I did it or how to fix it. When I turn on the laptop, I now get a Windows Boot Manager screen and an error. (Status 0xc000014c) I'm not sure how to fix it thought Ubuntu (that's why I"m here). I am at the point now where I have no problem formatting everything and starting all over. I have tried to do a clean install of Win7. However, when I go to install the OS, it does not detect the hard drive. The Bios does, as we (Hardware)

I had a very hard time to dual boot install Ubuntu 12.04 Apparently, Ubuntu has restriction of 4 partitions and I already had 4, so it just couldn't recognise my partitions. This was something I realised too late, but finally got to install Ubuntu.

Now, even though Windows 7 option is listed when I try to boot my laptop, it doesn't really let me boot and just loops back to begin.

I installed Ubuntu today for the first time on a Dell desktop running Windows XP sp3. I opted to install on a second hard drive, following these instructions: http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/07/23/dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-...

When I reboot my computer, and enter the boot sequence menu in BIOS, there isn't even an entry for my second hard drive.

I have two internal Hard drives. One is a 200GB dual boot with Win7 & and Ubuntu 12.04. I unplugged the second drive, a 1 TB, during the OS installation process to make sure I didn't wipe out any of my files. When I plug in the TB drive now I get an "initramfs" error on start-up and can not get the drive to be recognized. When I unplug it (SATA), the OS's boot fine.

I've been trying to help a friend reinstall Windows XP after she decided she wasn't ready for Ubuntu, but when I boot her Lenovo T61p from the Windows XP install disk, it complains that there is no hard drive. But the hard drive is fine, and will still boot Ubuntu.

Hey, everyone!

My problem isn't actually in Linux, but most people here seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers as well, so I figured I'd ask.

I searched for an answer, but was unable to find...

1. I have little knowledge of Ubuntu, I am using 12.10 (I tried Ubuntu several years ago). 2. I built a computer, ufei bios, multiple hard drives, SSD and two sata 6. Windows 7 is on the SSD, (drive C:), Ubuntu is on a sata 6 (drive F:).

I had the idea to dual boot Win 7 and Ubuntu and what I did was the following:

Made a clean install of win 7 using all of my hard drive, next I used the ubuntu live cd and gparted to partition my drive to be the following:

/dev/sda1 ext4 20GB (Linux root) /dev/sda2 ntfs 100GB(Win7) /dev/sda3 ext4 350GB(Home) /dev/sda4 extended 4GB(swap)

So I just recently built a new computer and I have Windows 8 running on it, bios is set to UEFI, and Secure Boot is off. Windows 8 runs perfectly on it. Well with the new version of Ubuntu out, I thought I would give it a try in a dual boot on my new system. I have a separate hard drive just for Ubuntu, however I can't even get an installer to load to let me install it!

okay, so i installed ubuntu on a desktop using a bootable USB, using this tutorial: http://lifehacker.com/5403100/dual+b...erfect-harmony

so as the tutorial explains, i created a seperate partition on my hard drive, then created the usb boot drive, and installed it from that. this is where i think I started to go 'off-piste'.
