I installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my old laptop (Asus X50N).
I downloaded new nVidia drivers (my video-card is nVidia 7000M) and installed it as described here. After reboot I see for 1 second login command line and then black screen with blinking cursor (I can't type anything).
In safe mode I removed nvidia-current package but I still see black screen.
What I should do? Thank you.
I have Ubuntu 12.10 an nvidia 540M graphic card with optimis technology.
I have tried and tried to install Ubuntu 12.10 on this video card and get the dreaded nouveau driver issues. I then installed 10.4 and then tried to upgrade to 12.10 after getting the updated nVidia drivers from xorg, but only get a black screen now.
Is there anything else I can do?
Finished installing Ubuntu 10.10 in my XPS15, intel i5 4g ram, nvidia GT 420M graphics card,
problem is when i go to additional drivers, the driver listed (Nvidia accelerated graphics) when I install it and reboot it the computer starts on the terminal, no graphic interface.
Hi,
I've been trying to get my graphic card working under ubuntu and opensuse but to no avail.
First, i tried through additional drivers, but after installation it keeps saying "this driver is activated but not currently in use". That is 3D-accelerated proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards.
Help. I'm testing / evaluating 64-bit Ubuntu by setting up a USB boot before installing onto my hard drive. I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed, but it didn't recognize the NVidia 520 based graphics card. Searching online I found a .deb file on a PPA site (not sure if terminology is correct, I just learning Ubuntu details).
I had Ubuntu 3.0.23 and installed manually the nVidia drivers 2 months ago. Now took the accumulated updates 3.0.26 and can't boot anymore. After the GRUB menu I get a black screen and a cursor. Is there a way to get into the system and remove the nVidia driver?. I have tried booting with both kernels and also the recovery mode but doesn't work.
When I try to install any recent version of Ubuntu, the screen shows some green and purple mess (like analog TVs when thers no signal). Then, a black screen. I guess it keeps booting in live/install mode. But I can't see it.
I have used rEFIt to achieve triple-boot on my 15' Retina Macbook Pro. However, for now I cannot get the nVidia drivers to work under Ubuntu 12.04 x64.
Every time after I installed the nVidia Driver, X won't restart, and give me an error of "No screens found".
I have tried both drivers from nVidia's website and drivers from Proprietary Drivers in Ubuntu's System Settings.
