I have a Windows XP SP3 machine that is having trouble installing some hardware. It is a IBM eServer xSeries 205. I have not opened the machine but I get the notices every login.
If I install Ubuntu via VMWare is it possible that the hardware would get recognized correctly and I'll be able to know if they a) work correctly and b) what they actually are?
Hey guys, first post so hopefully it in the right section.
Anyway, I got this laptop from a friend who was running Windows but one of her "smart" friends deleted the contents of the entire harddrive to rid it of some malicious software ie: a virus of some sort.
Hi
I am considering buying one of the laptops Dell is offering for sale with Ubuntu pre installed.
I currently use Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro that belongs to my work, which will have to go back to my work soon as I am changing jobs!
First of all, I am not a geek and I am totally new to Linux.
I want to try Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop. So I want to know whether the hardware of the laptop is compatible with Ubuntu and they'll just work with Ubuntu as fine as they work with Windows 7. Following are my hardware specs as I found. Can any one tell me, will they work fine and the machine will run smoothly?
XP-SP3 running VMPlayer 4.0.4 with a Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS VM
Using TinyTerm residing on the "same" machine, I can telnet to this VM with no issues. What I can't seem to determine is how to telnet to this VM from another machine on the local network.
UBUNTU has created a domain of 192.168.149.xxx ... this doesn't match my local network address of 214.197.79.xxx ...
Hi, I am new to Ubuntu and I would like to give Ubuntu 12.10 a try on my laptop. I am using an Acer Aspire 4530 laptop with the following specs:
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core processor 2.10GHz
3GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 9100MG GPU
I am thinking of replacing my current Windows Vista OS(32-bit) with Ubuntu, so will it slow down my laptop?
I'm thinking about getting a Macbook because the build quality seems extremely solid and I like the look and feel of the screen, keyboard, and mouse. But I primarily want to use it to run Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I have never had the chance to experience the Mac OS for more than an hour, and I'm really curious to try it out.

I run Ubuntu on some of my desktop and server machines (where it just works seamlessly). I am NOT a sysadmin by ANY means (I'm a programmer), though, and do not like to futz with hardware/software install issues. Now I want to buy a small netbook writing code, reading PDF papers and so forth on the go. I want to run Ubuntu on my netbook as well (ideally the standard distribution).
