Hi,
I recently installed ubuntu 11.04 on my old laptop. It is a compaq with an AMD Semprom Processor 3000+ and 512mb of ram, obviously it runs with many laggs on it specially when i try to open the ubuntu software center. So I was wondering what version of Ubuntu can i install and have a smooth experience.
My Laptop is running very hot. To the point that Ubuntu is giving me warnings. Now it's not crashing or anything. What I do notice, however, is that when I first turn on the computer I can run BBC iPlayer smoothly. As time goes on it becomes more choppy as the Laptop heats up. How can I cool it down?

i am thinking of going from ubuntu to suse. i have a little experience with ubuntu but i have had bugs that are not resolvable at this time in ubuntu.. so instead of giving wild bill back my pc i am looking for a new distro. my concerns with ubuntu revolve around acpi. no fan control and high temp. the 2nd problem that is almost overlookable is the ata1 softreset error.
Hi,Currently I am using Ubuntu 12.04 but the laptop is not giving the backup as it gives on Windows 7. I also noticed that the processor is being utilized at its maximum by its sound during performance. So, is there any method to optimize the processor/cpu performance and increase the backup time of the laptop??
The Puppy Linux project has released version 5.0 of its fast, small-footprint Linux distro, basing it on Ubuntu for the first time. Puppy Linux 5.0 is built from Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx binary packages, offers a new & Quickpet& application suite, introduces a choice of web browsers, and can now boot to the desktop, say the developers....
Hi everyone, I've been a linux user for about 3 years now and never intend to use windows again if I can help it. I've shifted around using various linux distro's on my laptop (ubuntu, mint, pclinux, puppy) until my laptop met it's demise at the hands of a full pint of water (don't ask), however, I managed to acquire a pc that was being discarded at work.
