After my friends computer kept crashing on windows, I decided to install ubuntu 12.04 on it as he only needs it for basic Internet connection. However, I can not get the computer to detect the ethernet cable.
Hello,
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on this box and plugged an ethernet cable in but even though Ubuntu claims it is connected to the network I cannot access the internet.
ifconfig says an ip (192.168.2.9) is allocated to the computer but according to my router it is not (0.0.0.0 and idle connection). The LAN ethernet device on the box is a Realtek RTL8139.
Hi forum!
My problem is that I recently upgraded my hardware for my Ubuntu Server (10.04.1 ver.) with a new motherboard ++
Then I plugged in RJ45 the at the very same location. But no blinking light from the RJ45 interface, and no connection with router..
The cable must be broken. So I tried the cable with my school laptop (linux Mint newes ver.) .. and it worked!
I am trying Ubuntu on a trial basis to see if I think I could use it in place of Windows. One of the things I can do in Windows is connect my XP laptop thru a wireless access point which is connected by ethernet cable to my desktop, which is set to share its internet connection. The desktop connects to the internet by dialup.
Hi,
obviously, I have just started using Linux. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer 5735z (specs an be found here).
PROBLEM:
I manage to get a wireless connection with my pc, but when trying to use an Ethernet cable to connect the result is a slow Internet connection which jump online/offline.
Hi, coming here last time fixed the wifi, so hoping some one here can also help me get my ethernet problems fixed :)
In my present location (at work) my ubuntu machine can't connect through ethernet.
Hi everyone, I saw a few other posts with this problem, but none of the solutions have worked out for me. Bascially I tried to connect to the internet using a cable modem connected to the computer with an ethernet cord. Auto eth0 attempts to connect and the icon spins for half a minute. Then it says that the wired connection was disconnected.
Hello, I know there have been a lot of posts about the internet not working on this forum, but none seem to fix my problem. I have just installed ubuntu 12.10 and everything runs great, except for the wireless. When I plug an ethernet cable into my machine, the internet works fine, but the wireless does not.
I'm troubleshooting a network problem for an acquaintance. He's running Lucid Netbook Edition on a Thinkpad X41.
A few days ago, according to him, he suddenly couldn't get online. He was at someone else's house and using their connection with no problems, then got back to his home network and couldn't connect.
