So I'm not a total noob at ubuntu, but this feels like a noob question. I recently installed 12.10 on my desktop and I can't run minecraft anymore, it's just a black screen. I assume this is a video driver issue.
I recently bought a good video card and want to see it work at it's full potential. Where can I get the drivers for an Nvidia GF 9800? I have looked around but there is no driver suggestion in the Hardware Drivers option of Ubuntu. I can't get envy to work either. How would I know if my video card is being used to it's potential? Help is appreciated thnx ._.
Hey i decided to try out Ubuntu as a seperate OS on my computer. Anyway, installtion goes fine, and i can restart over and over without anything bad happening. But if i activate either of the updates for my Nvidia GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i then restart to complete the update, i end up with a black screen with a few randomly coloured pixels once i log in.
Ok, I'm was watching some videos but suddenly it's just hangs on that black screen in the middle of video I can see anything but black the mouse cursor in the screen and the only option for me is to unplug the power to restart the computer, this happen to me now like four times so I really want to solve this!

Yesterday I just tried to connect my ancient ATI radeon 9550 video card to a ancient TV with a S-video cable and voila - it worked. I had a an extension of my desktop on my TV which is super for full-screen movies... but...
I need to move/adjust the screen on the TV 1cm (half an inch) to the left.
