Hi,
I am using an ATI Radeon 9800 se with HDMI connection.
I have two choices :
1/ First one is to install the free driver of Xorg and my screen has a good display but I CANNOT use special 3D effect with compiz or others 3D application.
2/ Install the last official driver of ATI for this card but it's the reverse.
I am brand-spanking-new at this whole linux thing and I'm having a difficult time of installing my graphics driver. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an Acer Extensa 4420. It has an ATI Radeon Xpress 1250. I have gone to the ATI/Radeon site and downloaded the proprietary driver that is supposed to correspond with my card.

Hi,
I have an ATI Radeon 9600 video card on openSUSE 11.2 and I wish to enable 3D acceleration to get all the eye-candy working.
As I understand it, fglrx will not work because ATI has relegated support of this video card to the legacy driver, which does not support the latest version of X.
Just a heads up, everything here is being done in Ubuntu, just because I already had a PPC disk. Later when I have a better internet connection, I'll use Lubuntu, but this was quicker. I have a PowerMac G5 dual Core, with the default graphics card, the Radeon 9600. Great for low shaders, however I cannot seem to get the driver working.
I followed the instructions here
What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers (fglrx)?
