I'm running 12.04.2, and I've got an Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Card Reader/Writer (usb ID 058f:6362). Occasionally, I'll have a flash card fail, or get messed up, and the card will go "read only". The problem is that the reader seems to go read-only, because all subsequent cards plugged into the reader are now marked read-only as well.
I'm not sure when, but my ubuntu machine stopped responding to front usb ports. Any device plugged into the rear of the machine work fine, but the front don't do anything. My phone won't even draw power when plugged into the front. I am using the ringtail experimental build, but they were working fine last night.
The lsusb command returns

I have EFI Windows 8 in my Asus K55V laptop. EFI partition is sda1.
I tried to install Ubuntu in EFI mode and selected separate boot partition as Ubuntu boot loaded.
Ubuntu installed perfectly, but I got 2 boot entries in EFI setup. When I tried to delete it in EFI setup, it restored on restart.
So I tried doing boot-repair, the thing is it added Grub2 to my sda partition.
I have a card reader in my laptop that requires that to work and it used to but just today I noticed it stopped working.
I have not had a need to use the card reader in a couple weeks and there has been kernel update so I am blaming them.
Hello fellow Archians,I just realized my sd card reader does not function at all. No recognition of sdcard when inserted. The laptop model is Asus G73jw. The sdcard / reader works under windows. I followed http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-92 … art-0.html as the card reader was similar, mine is 05:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
Absolute beginner here so please be gentle.
I managed to install Ubuntu 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope on my laptop and so far all has been well and really enjoying the linux experience. The only thing I can't do is get the card reader working on my laptop. When I insert a card nothing happens. I am using a XD card in the card reader.
How do I fix this?
I suspect the answer is "just doesn't work", but it seems odd to me.
My laptop's card reader works fine for SD cards but completely ignores xD cards: when you plug in an xD card there is nothing in syslog; nothing pops up in nautilus. The same xD card + reader works fine in Windows.
Anyone know whether this is just an unsupported thing?
Hi everyone!
Hello there.
I noticed that the card reader of my Dell Inspiron 15R does not work under Fedora 18.
The device is identified as (using lsusb):
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
