I currently use Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro that belongs to my work, which will have to go back to my work soon as I am changing jobs!

I will soon be purchasing a new laptop & currently the Dell Inspiron 17 is my favourite. I have been looking around for compatibility issues and it seems to be fine.

Dell Studio series is a desktop solution for gaming and high performance computing purposes. Currently Dell introducing the new series of Dell Studio. Its Dell Studio XPS SX8100-1986 NBC. This desktop is powered by Intel Core i7 860 at 2.8 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop. I have replaced the battery and the charger. While the laptop will run on AC power it will not charge the battery and the battery is such like: http://www.scontobatteria.com/dell-studio-xps-16.html . It says plugged in not charging. If I restart the laptop I get an error screen that says the charger is not recognized. Is there a solution to this?

I'm going to jump into the world of Linux, and do so by "voting" for Ubuntu and purchasing a Dell Studio XPS 13 with Ubuntu pre-loaded.
