[ubuntu] Accessing contacts in Unity

http://ubuntuforums.org – Is there any way to get quick access to contacts in Ubuntu 12.10? Through unity? In Mac OS I used QuickSilver and I would like something similar. I know of Gnome-Do. Can that intergrate into Unity. (Hardware)

I have one partition with Ubuntu 12.10 made lean. It is the updated/upgraded Beta 2. I played with Unity for sometime on that. Unity actually make me little tired.

Downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 and installed Gnome-shell 3.6.1 from Ubuntu repos and uninstalled Unity. This Gnome 3 is the base of Unity anyway, I only needed the Gnome-shell. It worked much better than Unity.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit and it was all fine until last week. Now, there are several problems that I'm encountering:

I cannot change my desktop background. Application lens is installed, but no applications are shown in the dash.

Why is Ubuntu 13.04 still using Unity 6.6.0 when Ubuntu 12.10 has Unity 6.8.0?(Or some other version) I created a USB with a persistent space on it. Installed all of the Ubuntu 13.04 updates, and it was still on Unity 6.6.0. Since Unity 6.8.0 was released all the way back in October it seems like we should have the latest Unity version.

I just did a new install of U-12.10 and when I went to Facebook for the first time I chose NO for the Unity Web App dialogue box asking permission to intergrate into Unity because I still had to punch in my user name and password and did not want to do it again when using Unity Web App for Facebook.

Make Gnome look like Unity

Hello All,

On my previous installation of Ubuntu 12.04 I was using the gnome classic desktop(no effects), but it looked and functioned just like unity 2d.

I would use unity 2d but the video playback is choppy in full screen, this is an older laptop, gnome no effects does not have this issue.

Unity 2D on Ubuntu 2 years 4 weeks ago

Ubuntu Unity is a desktop experience designed for efficiency of space and interaction. It maximizes usability and minimizes complexity. Everything is available just 1 click away and almost everyone enjoys working with it. But the problem is, you cant get Unity working everytime on your computer because it needs 3D effects enabled by-default.

Can anyone help me how to complete remove Unity for ubuntu 12.04. Sorry if it disturb the unity fan but I am not so happy with Unity and I really want to use GNOME.
