I recent Ubuntu update has caused a performance issue with my (and most likely many other's) ATI graphics card. This issue is only present with the proprietary drivers.
Since I updated my 12.04 (x64) Ubuntu to 12.10, I ran into the problem where the Catalyst driver doesn't work.
(my ATI card is a Radeon 7700 HD).
The way I got it back and running after my 12.10 upgrade was kind of sketchy - but my options were limited, as my access to a gui (and ability to browse the web and look up answers to questions) was limited.
I want to use the open source Radeon driver for Ubuntu, but currently I'm using fglrx.
So, I went ahead and purged fglrx using sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx* and when I rebooted and ran sudo lshw -c video, I still see driver=fglrx_pci. I've followed the instructions here.
I'm not sure why I can't completely purge fglrx, is anyone else experiencing this?
Hi guys!
I have a Dell Studio 1535 notebook, which has a Mobility Radeon HD3450 graphics card in it. The problem is, that immediately after I install the ATI/AMD propietary FGLRX graphics driver, the screen brightness will be set up automatically to 100% after each reboot.
my graphic card was working fine but i thought i could have better performance by installing a graphic media acelarator so i did install EMGD 1.8 doing this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gma500/emgd-1.8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xorg-emgd emgd-dkms
sudo emgd-xorg-conf
when i reboot no graphic display no more so i did removed the installation running ubuntu in recovery mod by t
I'm usually the one answering questions, but in this I'm throughly stumped!
My Setup:
Ubuntu 12.10 (Dist upgrade form 12.04)
ATI M96 [Mobility Radeon HD 4650]
Upon the first installation of 12.10 I had all kinds of issues getting the Legacy ATI drivers to install (I guess the source for the drivers isn't kosher with kernel 3.5).
There is a known problem with Radeon HD 3xxx and 4xxx fglrx driver install on Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10, which have only one (as for me) decision - downgrade X-Server. I used to fix this using repository ppa:makson96/fglrx (https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx) but, as I can see, it works only with 12.xx versions.
I install ubuntu 12.04 in my notebook and I use c++. I want to use c++11,so I want to upgrade my gcc to gcc4.7.
After reading the article about Ubuntu coming to phones, i decided to download the Mobile SDK to my pc, as per the instructions on the website.
