I'm not sure whether this is a bug (in which case I'll submit a report) or I'm doing something silly!
Hi,
I have a problem with my computer occasionally restarting on shutdown.
Sometimes when i shutdown it reboots.
It happens like 50% of my Suse 11.2 startups, when I type in my password at login screen and hit enter, Gnome do not start, i can only see the green blank screen,or sometimes it start to show only my custom wallpaper and nothing more, when i try ctrl+alt+backspacex2 and login again everything seems to work fine, but what could be wrong ? is it a hardware issue ?
I have ubuntu 11.10 64bit, everything worked fine but after i uninstalled the airtime dj app i can't restart or shutdown my pc !! The only way to reach at the screen showing that system is going to shutdown is via terminal but it stucks and never shuts down !
I can't even restart it !
I can suspend my pc fine but can't shutdown or restart it.
When I need to reboot (sadly, the days of 300+ days of uptime appear to be long gone) while logged into my account, the Shut Down option only logs me out - it does not shutdown the system.
My Compaq Presario 2100 will not shutdown, restart, suspend, or hibernate correctly. When I attempt a shutdown or restart, it hangs with a message to the effect of Shutting Down Now, but it never powers off.
I would like to be able to log these messages and present them on this web site for help, but I know of no way to log shutdown messages.
Logout, Suspend and hibernate works as it should in my gnome-shell desktop.
But Shutdown/Restart does not - I just get back to my kdm login screen again... Any ideas how do I enable this ?
Thanks
ubuntu 12.10 login screen restart and shutdown button not working
Nothing to say more actually.
What am i doing wrong?
My workstation at work is running 11.10 (lightdm). Shutting down or restarting has always worked up till last week.
My workstation is generally left on through the week and shutdown at weekends.
When I click either Restart or Shutdown, it just logs me out.
Is there any logs I can see that will point to errors?
What might cause this? I haven't got auto login checked (as one answer suggested).
