So, I have decided to switch to a Linux OS (I am tired of Windows bogging down my computer), but I am struggling trying to get Ubuntu installed.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 (32 bit)and I have downloaded Ubuntu (the 32 bit version) and burned it onto a CD.
I got my brand new Dell Inspiron 14z yesterday, but failed to install Ubuntu.
I can boot from a USB stick, and it works well. When trying to install, I confirm that the laptop is connected to the Internet etc (as in the 2nd picture in the installation guide: How do I install Ubuntu?). When pressing "Continue" I do not get the question on installation type (alongside/replace/something else).
I am trying to do a full installation of Ubuntu 11.04 on my USB stick, which can be virtualized on vmwares or virtualboxes when I plugged my USB stick. The Ubuntu must be able to save my files on the USB stick and I can boot and retrieve the files on any other computers that I use to boot the USB stick. Can anyone provide a detailed step-by-step manual which I can follow through?
I have just got a new Dell inspiron laptop which comes with windows 7. I wanted to setup up a windows 7/ubuntu 12.04 dual boot system. I used a USB stick which has a copy of ubuntu 12.04 64 and booted from the USB stick. It took me through the installation process (which involved partitioning the hard disk o make room along side of windows).
My installation of Ubuntu 12.10 over Ubuntu 11.10 seems to hang on "saving installed packages". How long should I wait before knowing for sure that something is wrong? I stopped it once and tried re-installing but am getting the same results. I'm installing from a USB stick.
Any suggestions are appreciated! Please let me know if you need more information.
Hi, right now my computer has dual boot Windows7 and Ubuntu 11.10.
I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 without deleting Ubuntu 11.10.
I'm really confused with how to partitioning and the install process. It would be nice to have someone show a step-by-step walkthrough on how to do this.
I have already downloaded the iso file and prepared a bootable usb.
Hi I have ubuntu 12.04.2 amd64 installed on a dell inspiron n5010 and want to know how to confirm the bluetooth is turned off.
Hey,
I wanted to install Ubuntu-9.10 in my laptop, currently which has both windows and ubuntu-9.04. I'm trying to make it fully into linux box.
I downloaded ubuntu-9.10 from ubuntu site and with 3rd party software( sorry forgot the name ) copied the ubuntu folder to the usb stick.
I downloaded ubuntu and burned to disk. booted up using the disk and Ubuntu will load. but it wont install. I'll click the install icon select my internet and click continue. then nothing. the hour glass goes and goes but nothing. I'm using a dell inspiron 1545. Windows no longer works on this pc. I was trying to run Ubuntu as a hassle free alternative.
