I am having some problems getting sound to work over the HDMI interface on my laptop. I have tried going to System/Preferences/Sound to try and change the settings to HDMI but there are no HDMI options to choose from. I have connected a SPDIF cable from the motherboard to the graphics card. The system is dual bootable and with windows the sound worked immediately with no problems.

Hello, running 12.10 amd64 on a ASUS M5A88-M Motherboard with a built in RS880 [Radeon HD 4250] graphics card.

I've got a nice 5.1 surround sound AV receiver which only accepts HDMI, so I'm not interested in any other way to play audio other than HDMI. I've built a home theatre PC, so having the graphics on the MoBo cuts down on space, power and fan noise.

Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64bit ASUS mobo M5A97R2.0 audio Realtek ALC887

I have been struggling more than a week unable solving the sound problem via HDMI output.

On sound setting -> Output HDMI/DisplayPort disappears on "Play sound through"

I have another HD on this PC running Fedora 17 desktop 64bit. There is no problem on sound output via HDMI.

I lost hdmi sound after updates, it's not even listed in sound settings. Nvidia 319.12 driver.

I just spent hours to configure the sound to work with HDMI. My last problem is, when I start playing sound the TV screen goes on and off, like when you change the resolution. When I stop playing sound, 3-5 seconds after, the same thing happen. I feel like everytime I play/stop the sound, the HDMI connection needs to be resetted.

I have an F17 machine with an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU w/embedded Intel HD4000 GPU.

When I plug my HDMI into a TV the video works great but I get no sound.

I just built new PC:

AMD 8350 CPU ASUS sabertooth motherboard Nvidia GTX 650 graphics card Ubuntu 12.10

System boots fine and desktop is fine using VGA connection, but there is no HDMI video output to the monitor (HP w2207h) using the Nouveau drivers.

Tried a second other type of monitor with HDMI and had the same thing "NO SIGNAL".

So I used "System Settings" and changed from Nouveau driver
