I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a Acer Aspire One ZG5 (AOA 110), then Skype, and I can't make the microphone work. I tried this method with alsamixer

but it doesn't works. The sound is not recognized by alsamixer, nor by the sound settings.

Can someone advise me on a certain microphone issue.
I have an Ubuntu GNU/Linux user friend that was trying to get her microphone working for Google Voice and Video Chat and she couldn't figure it out. So I recorded a short video that talks about changing settings in Ubuntu "Sound Preference" to get your microphone working.With a little bit of faith and tinkering, you should be able to get your microphone working perfectly.
I am not very experienced in linux and have this problem with microphone which works fine on Windows.
I have installed skype 2.1 beta on my Lenovo Thinkpad R61i, under Fedora Core 12. The webcam is connected to the USB port, and I use the microphone of the headphones (but I have the same problem with the internal microphone).

Headset: Mic plantronics audio 400 DSP
Issues: I cannot use the MIC but I can hear sound from the headset without problems.
Here is the sound settings:

I installed 12.10 on an Acer AOD250 machine, and it works really well(far better than I thought).
But the Mic is still acting a little odd.
I open the sound settings and the microphone there picks up nothing, along with Skype, though I ran Audacity and it gave me an option to choose the Mic(HDA Intel: ALC272) and it works just fine.
I opened alsamixer and turned the Mic up from there and it still
