My OS is WINDOWS XP SP 3. I installed UBUNTU 11.10 from a CD which was prepared through ISO Image. Incidentally, I am having two Hard Disks C Drive is in the old Hard Disk, but the WINDOWS is in J Drive located in New Hard Disk. Now, UBUNTU 11.10 was installed in J Drive. Proper installation was done. Thereafter I was asked to reboot the system.
I've had Ubuntu as the sole OS on my desktop for a couple years. Updated it to Precise soon after it came out. Today I decided to try dual booting to Windows 8. I bought a new, separate hard drive (SATA) to install Windows on. My Ubuntu installation is on my older PATA disk.
I disconnected the Ubuntu drive completely when installing Windows.
Hello all, I have an Acer R3610 (basically a netbook's internals, and you provide your own monitor/keyboard/mouse), and I decided to install Ubuntu onto it. Installed the most recent version onto it, and installation seemed to go ok, installing Ubuntu onto the hard drive from a USB. It loaded up fine, with the username that I chose.
Alright, I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my PC which used to have win 7 on my SSD. However SSD(ocz) was defective so I took it out and it's in the process of being replaced. So I decided to install Ubuntu on my 2 TB(ata? drive) which was named Trinity via my previous windows installation. I have about 370 GB worth of valuable data on it so I have no desire to format the entire drive.
I am trying to install ubuntu on a pc already running windows7 os. I have got 3 volumes on my hard disk. 1st C drive is where windows is installed, second drive A is where I want to install ubuntu and 3rd is used for backup.
When I run installation from my USB it gives my options 1.
I've done a lot of searching for an explanation to this. I have a new computer with windows 8 pre-installed.
Hi,
I have finally got round to getting rid of windows, after a couple of years on a dual boot without using it, and needing the extra space on my hard drive.
I followed these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ho...dows_Partition
With the space left by windows I created a primary partition ext4 (as instructed), my initial Ubuntu installation is on an extended partition.
