Hello all and thank you for taking the time to read this...
Just recently I installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a spare HDD I had so I could have both Windows and Ubuntu on their own dedicated HDD... So far everything is working great, except my Internet speeds are really slow.....
Hello Ubuntu world!
I am completely and utterly new, so stick with me here.
I have a desktop computer that I had Ubuntu 10.10 loaded on. Started it up after about a year and upgraded gradually to 12.04 LTS.
(I want to post specs, but how do I do it in the fancy scroll box?)
Anyway, I have noticed extremely slow internet speeds since day 1.
I normally use Windows 7 on my laptop and have internet speeds that are normally about 15-20 Mb/s. I have recently dual-booted with Ubuntu 12.10, and have noticed that internet speeds are drastically slower in Ubuntu. When tested, speeds range from 0.2-2 Mb/s, although occasionally being significantly faster than that or even stopping completely for short periods of time.
i know this question has been asked a million times, but it seems everyone is having separate problems, I've read through a bunch of "slow wifi problems" but didnt want to jump into the terminal and start entering random codes
So, im running Ubuntu 11.10 along windows 7, on a dell 1647 with a Netgear n600 wireless, and as you have guessed, the wifi is running at extremely slow speeds.
im running Ubuntu 12.10 and it works like a charm... but one problem, when i updated my software everything seemed OK until i noticed that my internet speed very slow.
So I made the move from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 12.04 today but the Internet speed is nearly a quarter of what I was previously getting on Windows. All the Hardware is still the same as before. I am quite baffled about why it is like this.
I have tried Googling my issue but nothing seemed to work. Below is my current INTERNET speed.
Before the switch over I had 28-34Mb/s download...
I'm using and Inspiron N5030 with Ubuntu 12.04.
I'm connected to the internet via WiFi, but when I connect via ethernet the problem persists. Download speeds are not effected. For the past month web pages were loading slowly, and this morning they're not loading at all. Yesterday I made my IP static to fix the problem but it helped very little.
I'd like to ask, in what order are bits and bytes sent through the cable (what is the endianness of bits and bytes)? And does the network layer simply pass the formed package to the data link layer, or does it perform any transformations of bits/bytes?
This article states, that it's big endian for bytes and little endian for bits. Can you confirm that?
Does anyone have any special settings other than default for FoxFi?
