I am currently having a conflict between MariaDB and mysql-libs.
Pure-ftpd requires libmysqlclient.so.18 (which MariaDB actually provides), yet it still wants to install mysql-libs, which obviously conflicts.
I setup the mariaDB repo from http://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/ and I am using Fedora 17.
Any ideas?
Any help would be awesome!

MariaDB does have one important characteristic that MySQL doesn't share, however: MariaDB isn't owned by Oracle.

I run a Debian LAMP server. I've been using the default MySql package a very long time. Currently I've been reading about MariDB. So I replaced mysql-server with mariadb-server. Simply to try it out.
There are two version of mariaDB for Debian. They are 10.0 and 5.5.
