http://ubuntuforums.org – Good afternoon, I recently updated my 10.04 release and then had a problem with the graphics card so I updated a little more and now have 12.04 which I'm fine with except that when I get to the login screen I can login as a guest and a secondary accout I have, but not as the main, administrator account. I tried to make it so no login was necessary and my password is accepted, but on the main login screen, after I put in my password I go right back to the main login screen. And where is the terminal to enter commands? (Hardware)

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 which was working fine till today.

If I try to login using one of my user accounts it directs me back to the login screen, which is followed by a black screen.

I am sure the password I enter is correct because if the password is wrong it prompts "Invalid Password".

On the other hand I am able to login using a root or guest account.

Up until recently my mother has been using the Guest Session when she logs on; now, the Guest Session will not login.

hello im not able to login into ubuntu admin...i type the password and hit enter, the screen goes black for a second and comes back to the login screen...im able to go into the guest account without any problem's..........btw i dont have a nvidia card ........was workin fine two hours earlier im using ubuntu 12.04

Solaris 10 Login Loop Problem 40 weeks 6 days ago

I recently installed Solaris 10 as a VM. I was using the JDS and shut down the vm when I left the office. When I rebooted today I login in at the desktop login screen and press ok but I am reverted to the console screen for a spilt second and then back to the login screen. I log in as root and my password is correct because I am not met with an incorrect login error.

I am unable to get past the login screen. It won't accept passwords, the screen momentarily goes black, and then returns to the login screen.

I recently found out that you can use CTRL-ALT-F1 to switch from the login screen to the command line. My password works in that situation and I was able to enter terminal mode.

I typed in "startx" to see what would happen.

This question is usually responded to with "Liveuser does not need a password".

Well believe it or not in some configuration it is not possible to go passed the login screen of Fedora 11 or 12 KDE.

If you just hit enter which should work, it goes black with a blue flasy thing and then back to the login screen.

I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 for a few months now, but have now come across a problem that I can't get past.

I am stuck at the log on screen: I enter my password but a black screen flashes up and the log on prompt reappears.

I tried using the terminal and I actually have managed to login- but not using the main log on screen. I can't get my desktop active as the log on prompt is there.

I'm having a weird issue. When I put my password using my account (ramiz) on the login screen of GUI, a blink of screen and it take me back to the login screen. I tried with Guest user and it is logging me in. I also tried Ctrl+ATL+F1 to switch to command mode and try to login there with sudo -s.

I recently upgraded to Fedora 18..I'm using gnome.. If I lock the screen, I cannot unlock it easily..

That is, I enter my password, click login.. The login button gets grayed out, and nothing.. It just waits. See attached photo: This is what happens after I click login..

Update: I found a weird work-around: I clicked suspend on that login screen. Nothing happened..
