Dual boot system, Win XP and Ubuntu 11 with Grub, working fine.
Update from 11.10 to 12.04 runs smooth, at end I reboot.
At boot, Grub menu won't appear, I get:
error: out of partition
grub rescue>
Tried the boot-repair disk.
Hello everyone.
Ok, I attempted a fresh Ubuntu install as I was having some internal system errors. When a simple "re-installation" didn't fix anything, I performed a "delete Ubuntu 13.04 and reinstall" from the boot USB.
That's when it all began. First I had a grub problem, where all I got at boot was the Grub Recovery. So I booted my windows recovery and repaired it.
Hello,
I've just tried upgrading Ubuntu from 12.04 to 12.10, when the system restarted the "grub rescue" prompt was displayed. I've tried booting into ubuntu through a live usb, installed boot repair and run it, but I am getting the following
Quote:
Locked-ESP detected.
Basically the system won’t boot. After the BIOS screen I get the message:
“Error 1692: No operating system found”
I ran the ‘boot-repair’ utility without success. Here is the boot info that utility generated:

Everything looks correct as far as I can tell. I booted a liveCD, mounted /dev/sda1, and poked around the “EFI” directory.
Following a fresh install of 12.04 on a dual HDD dual boot system first boot brought up Grub Rescue.
I installed Boot Repair in a live CD and ran the recommended repair. Boot Repair indicated a successful repair.
Upon reboot there is no entry for Win XP.
Gparted shows sda as full as it was before installing 12.04.
Mythbuntu 12.04 - I attempted to move one data drive to a different sata port, now the system doesn't boot (all drives are back to the original sata ports).
I ran boot-repair (using 12.04 live CD, ran the recommended repair) No change, the system doesn't boot.
I can boot the system off a rescue CD, choosing to boot off the correct boot drive.
Hi,
I got a new Asus zenbook with the 24GB SSD and 500GB drive. I thought I'd be clever and preserve the out-of-the-box windows installation on the 500GB and install ubuntu on the 24GB drive.
After a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10 the system wont boot. After the BIOS screen I get the message: Error 1692: No operating system found
I ran the boot-repair utility without success. Here is the boot info that utility generated:

Namely that after installing Ubuntu 12.04 and going to log in, I am met with a frozen slate of a desktop in which nothing loads (at longest I've sat for 30 minutes, reading, whilst nothing changes) and only the mouse moves.
Its not a blank screen, its the desktop that one is normally greeted with, just with nothing loaded.
So far I've tried http://askubuntu.com/questions/15715...-12-04-upgrade
