I had installed windows 7 and ubuntu 12.04 side by side using dual boot.
Recently I reinstalled my windows and the grub menu disappeared .I ran a boot repair from my ubuntu live cd to reinstall grub but it is still not showing ubuntu but only windows in grub http://paste.ubuntu.com/1059475
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 alongside windows xp in C drive using a Live USB flash drive. Installation went smoothly and after installation it asked to restart. I restarted and removed the flash drive. It automatically booted into XP without showing OS boot options and did all sorts of check scans and In MY COMPUTER i saw that the 7 GB i allocated to ubuntu is gone.
Yesterday I installed ubuntu 12.04.1.
Note : its a dual boot system along windows 7
At first grub was appearing and i was able to start ubuntu but then i had to switch to windows but windows was not booting when i select windows 7 it jumps back to grub window. So i fix the Windows Boot Loader using repair from windows media and wolla windows started to boot but Ubuntu Grub gone.
It first started when I deleted my partition that had Ubuntu 12.04 on it. Little did I realize at the time that it would destroy all the resources of Grub on it, and subsequently prevent me booting into my hibernated windows. So I made a 12.10 Ubuntu live USB and reinstalled windows bootloader.
I just installed ubuntu 12.04 using a different partition for the /boot (I don't know why exactly I did this, I remembered reading somewhere on the web about this). The thing is that after this operation, the grub is not showing at boot, so the computer is loaded directly into windows.
as title says, this is my first time trying ubuntu.
I dont know what's wrong with my update manager..
It says that the softwares that I installed was broken. Maybe because I force shutdown my laptop, because Ubuntu wont shutdown,showing up desktop wallpaper but not title bar and launcher, but It won't shut down (+that's another bug).
I've just update the broken softwares. the size is 60 to 70 MB..
But It doesn't work.
Hi everyone!
As per the title, i've upgraded my 11.10 install to 12.04, but Grub now only lists Windows XP - there is no option to boot to Ubuntu.
Things i've tried;
1 - Boor-Repair - have repaired the Grub, but still only Windows XP showing
2 - Have run;
Code:
sudo update-grub
And i get;
Code:
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?).
Could some kno
Hello, I'm a complete beginner if it comes to Ubuntu/ Linux. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 11.10 as a dual boot with Windows Vista on my Toshiba Satellite A300. I chose option 'install alongside Windows" and automatic partition. The installation process went fine and I was asked to restart the system, which I did.
