I have to long press the power button on my Laptop to shut it off
After a clean install of 11.2 KDE my system shuts down quite quickly.
Then after updates and a few installations (Nvidia drivers, Thunderbird and Skype), the shutdown time becomes much longer.
Can anyone help me with where to find any shutdown logs or other ideas on how to get my fast shutdown back?

With 11.2 and Gnome occasionally it will not shutdown properly. I press the shutdown button and then Gnome starts the shutdown sequence. It terminates the desktop and falls back to GDM, which in it self is normal. However it then just stops, I can't click anything and the system is not responding either. When I press the physical button on my PC I get the menu of shutdown again.
Hi,
I'm using Mythbuntu 12.04 (although I had the same issue with 11.10 which is why I did a fresh install of 12.04 with db export/import). I have set it up with mythwelcome to shutdown when idle and start up for recordings according to:
http://http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ACPI_Wakeup
For the most part it all works well. However, occassionally the system hangs when shutting down.
I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop, when I down loaded the updates a few
days later I find it no longer does a complete shutdown, The screen comes up with the prompt for password, the settings icon shows a shutdown symbol , but it is obviously
not. I can force shutdown by holding the power button.
Since I got fglrx working under 11.2 (finally) I've had another problem pop up, with two different aspects to it.
When I try to shutdown or reboot from the system menu in Fedora 12, I am returned to the logon prompt. I am able to shutdown and reboot from a terminal window by issuing the shutdown command as the root user.:(
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

My Dell Latitude E5520 will not shutdown correctly. Using the GNOME panel default shutdown method everything goes well and my session ends, however shutdown will not pass the last two shutdown icon indicators on the purple shutdown screen. This is a default 12.04 clean install.
I am using a Linux system. I generally prefer to use the command line to shutdown my system. Every time I shutdown the system it displays logs. Can somebody help me to disable those logs? I wish to have nothing displayed on the screen at shutdown.
