[ubuntu] 11.04 Wireless is disabled by hardware switch

http://ubuntuforums.org – After upgrading to 11.04, I have found that I can not select "Enable Wireless" because "wireless is disabled by hardware switch". There is a hardware switch for the wireless but playing with that seems to do nothing. lspci says I have an Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter rfkill list says "sony-wifi: Wireless LAN" is soft blocked, as is "acer wireless: Wireless LAN", and "phy0: Wireless LAN" is both soft and hard blocked. running sudo rfkill ublock all removes all blocked but the soft block on "acer wireless: (Hardware)

hi all.. I am kind of new to ubantu.

Hi I have recently installed kubuntu 12.10 on a HP 630. I can not make the wireless card (Atheros AR9285).

Code: lspci: 02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc.

My Dell Mini 1018 used to work fine with Ubuntu 12.04 with no problems connecting with the wireless card. Then I made the big mistake of attempting to disable WiFi by right-clicking on the wireless applet and un-checking "Enable Wireless." Since then, I cannot get wireless working again.

I've recently both acquired a laptop to replace my broken one, and made the update from Statler to Waldorf, and we haven't been getting along very well so far.Sometimes, the wireless connection will drop, and NM will shadow the option, "Wireless is disabled". Recently, I found out I can fix that by right clicking and re-enabling, which is troublesome, but livable.

I disabled bluetooth from bluetooth tray menu (unity), then bluetooth was disabled, and wireless disabled too. I can't enable bluetooth and wireless again. It said:

bluetooth is disabled by hardware switch wireless is disabled by hardware switch

I checked BIOS, no bluetooth, wireless option.

FN+F2 doesn't work.

sudo rfkill unblock all doesn't work.

I have a Clevo MobiNote W130EW notebook with Ubuntu 12.10 running on it. When I start the computer it shows the wireless as hardware bloked:

$ rfkill list 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes

This is even though the actual physical switch is in the 'on' position. When I flip the physical switch to 'off' and then back; the wireless gets enabled.

I had wireless up and running for several months on a new laptop (HP Pavilion Entertainment PC). Suddenly, a week ago, the wireless came up disabled (and continues to come up disabled), and the "enable wireless" option in the NetworkManager Applet 0,8 is greyed out.

I have a toshiba l655d-s5145. There is no physical toggle for the wireless, although the f8 key is supposed to do the trick. It doesn't. The wireless has been working since October, and suddenly, nothing. RFKILL reports that the wireless is hard blocked, but unblock wifi, unblock 0, unblock all do nothing.
