[ubuntu] 10.04 Wine won't do anything at all

http://ubuntuforums.org – When I tried to run winetricks, nothing happened. Tried to run winecfg in terminal, got a message "wine: virtual memory exhausted". Needless to say, I can't run any programs with Wine. Also, my wine folder is empty. After all that happened, I went to the software center and installed the Wine dummy package, which seems to have changed my version of Wine from 1.3 to 1.2. Anybody know what's up, and what I should do to get it running? All I was wanting to do was use BGB to get more accurate sounds out of my LSDJ gameboy music tracker, since, after using it on my XP, I'm unsatisfi (Hardware)

I wanna wine a windows .exe program. first time i wine it ,i get an error message :"mfc42.dll cant be found" then i install it with winetricks i wine it again, this time i get

Hello, 3 problems with Wine: 1. "$ wine --version" returns 1.5.20. I'm trying to install v1.5.28 from the PPA, though "$ sudo apt-get install wine1.5" states that "wine 1.5 is already installed". How do I upgrade wine? (would rather not build from source, but I'll do that if there's no other choice). 2. My wine installation doesn't play sound. How do I fix that? 3.

I am trying to install Python 2.6 on WINE 1.5 in Ubuntu 12.04. (Yes, I need the WINE version, not the native Ubuntu version).

I have WINE 1.5 running just fine.

Can't remove wine 1.4 rc5 38 weeks 3 days ago

I installed Wine 1.4 rc5. Later I realised that this wine won't work because there is no sound. I removed it using Synaptic Package Manager and installed Wine 1.2 which is the stable version of Ubuntu 10.04. Even though I install it. It's still showing Wine 1.4 rc-5. How can I remove wine 1.4-rc5 and install Wine 1.2 ?

I'm new to ubuntu, formally windows 8 disgusted and have switched my other computer over to ubuntu only. The only thing I want to run on wine is to download DB Weave (and possibly for netflix later). I'm very confused with the wine install choices.

Changes for wine package 47 weeks 6 days ago

We have been changed how wine is built. From now on, we have wine, wine-mono and wine-gecko. Possible to only install wine and wine-mono, or wine and wine-gecko. If you do conary updateall in fl:2-devel label, you will need to install wine-mono and wine-gecko to get those.

I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 12 desktop then:

Installed WINE from the Ubuntu Software Center. Installed WineTricks from the Ubuntu Software Center.

When I type the following commands in the terminal:

sudo winetricks dotnet40

I get this error message:

wine cmd.exe /c echo '%ProgramFiles%' returned empty string

If i try the command without sudo

winetricks dotnet40

The output is

The version 1.2 of the well know wine is now released and you can download it from the next link. If you don't know what wine is, let me explain a little and short. wine is a program (wine is not emulator) that allow you to run windows programs. Some of the new features from wine after 2 years without a stable release.
