I have a USB drive with Ubuntu created from pendrivelinux.com. I've been running it off the USB drive to play with Linux on various machines without a problem. I recently installed Ubuntu to a hard drive from the USB drive using the USB boot loader's menu option (versus the "install to hard drive" option found on the live-USB desktop). Most everything installed correctly.
Hello all. I just bought an Acer 5738 with Windows 7 preinstalled. I pulled out my karmic cd and installed ubuntu alongside Win7. Now, I have 3 different NTFS partitions on my drive, of which 2 appear in my Places menu: one called ACER and another, the drive in question, SYSTEM RESERVED. SYSTEM RESERVED has no important files on it, except for the win7 loader.
Having installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 by wubi from XP I cant boot to start Ubuntu. The install app let me 2 options in windows loader. 1.- Windows Xp Professional. and 2.- Ubuntu. If I acces the frist option I get access to Windows Xp correctly but if select 2.
I had installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a separate partition, in ext4 format in my comp, which initially had only Windows 7 .I had done the installation from a Live USB, which gave me the option Install on boot, in a GRUB menu. I had chosen the option of "Installing Ubuntu alongside Windows". I had chosed the particular partition duing the install, and in mount part, I had given "/".
i am on ubuntu 12.04 precise lts. my user account has admin privileges. my menu bar doesn't show SYSTEM and PREFERENCES menu. i tried with alacarte but as soon as i would tick the checkboxes for system and prefernces items after a few moments the ticks would disappear. i tried "sudo-alacarte" it helped with the disappearing act but again the changes didn't materialise.
plz help.
This brief tutorial will show you how to display Places menu on Ubuntu Unity panel and make this menu indicator starts at log-in.
First download the indicator:
download indicator-places
It’s .tar.gz or .zip file. Extract and go into new created folder, and click to run indicator-places.py
To start this indicator at login, launch Startup Applications from the dash home.
I have been trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 on my new Lenovo laptop. The specs are
CPU - AMD A-8 3500M
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 6620G
4gb RAM
Currently on WIndows 7 64 bit (YUCK)
So I put the 32bit Ubuntu 11.10 onto a cd-r, and booted it. I got to the menu screen and hit Install. Screen eventually turned off, so I looked around on the internet and found I have to use the nomodeset option.
I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed along side of windows 7.
The grub menu doesn't seem obey GRUB_TIMEOUT=10, I see the grub menu there for a split second and it immediately defaults to the first option.
Grub menu worked fine when I first installed ubuntu. I am not able to pinpoint what exactly broke it(maybe some update?).
Hello!
I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time and really like it, but I am having an issue that I hope you will be able to help me on. Thank you in advance!! :)
Basic issue: The default left-side Ubunto toolbar (as well as the top and bottom toolbars) are gone no matter how I log in. I would like to restore the default side-menu when I log in under the 'ubuntu' option.
