http://forums.opensuse.org – In opensuse 11.0 and 11.1 (kde) I was able to tap the touch pad with two fingers to simulate middle-click. It allowed me to use "open link in new tab" feature in firefox with ease. It allowed me to close tabs I no longer needed. The same feature exists in 11.2 (kde4) but requires three fingers to tap. I find this frustrating, and wondered what the steps are to set it back to two fingers. I have no xorg.conf file. (Distributions)

Hi guys, I'm using the Ubuntu NBR 9.10 RC on the Asus 1000HE and absolutely love it.

I have one gripe though. Previously when I would tap the touchpad with two fingers this would act like the middle button of a mouse being clicked (extremely handy opening new tabs in firefox, etc) and tapping with three fingers behaved like right-click.

By default on mac os, with two fingers I can do this: -leave a finger on the mouse pad, and move another finger, and still be able to move the mouse -two finger scrolling requires both fingers be moving

this is handy, as sometimes (because the trackpad is so large, I leave my thumb on the "button" (or any other fingers depending on how I'm sitting) for clicking, as clicking AND moving the cursor

I've recently upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04, and I realize now that I have lost the ability to simulate a middle-click by using my touchpad with three fingers.

My laptop is a recent Sony VAIO VPCSE (I don't have the precise reference right here).

Is there something to do for me to regain this feature?

My system is fine but I wanted to refine the ease of use. Google chrome has a nice feature in Ubuntu that you can switch tabs by mouse scrolling while your mouse is in the tab-bar. And a nice feature that you can middle click close tabs in the tab-bar.

alright, so just to get this out of the way, i'm a noob but not a rube. i've been on ubuntu for about a year now on my eee, and i just upped to karmic. everything looks awesome except one detail: i use middle click entirely more often than i use right click, so the new situation where i'm using three fingers to open and close tabs in firefox is killing me.

I have installed regular Ubuntu 9.10 on a Asus Eee PC 1000HE.

Concerning the touch-pad, the two fingers for scrolling works fine but the three fingers for right click does not. Does anyone know how to make it work?

I have a Logitech multi touch T650 and what i have figure out that this this multi touch is been treated just like a mouse.

I have a Logitech Trackman Marble (also known as a MarbleMouse), which lacks a middle button. Previously, I have emulated a middle-click by clicking with both left and right buttons. This works great under KDE Plasma.

However, I am sick unto death of Plasma, and recently switched back to OpenBox.

How do I enable Middle mouse button emulation in 12.04 LTS? I think it was disabled by default in the last release. I'm sure this is a silly question but I can't find a generic answer, they all seem to be touchpad specific (ie, multi-touch related, which I dont have), or using what I consider not to be normal ubuntu methods (creating xorg.conf file).
