By default, Ubuntu Hardy Heron already equipped with a tool to take screenshot. You can access this tool from Applications | Accesories | Take Screenshot. But, this tool on Hardy heron does not support screenshot taking using rectangle select. But this lack of feature is already fixed on the next Ubuntu release.
