Trying to understand the compile process

view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – OK, first off, I am not a programmer. I am a system administrator. I am trying to help a user compile their code. Code compiles on a Redhat 5.9 version of Linux using Portland Compiler, but to get it to work on Redhat 6.4 I have to jump through some hoops. The Mafefile "includes" a config file. I didn't know you could do that, so that was new. In the Makefile, you feed it "make sgi", "make cray", or in our case "make linux_pgi", which will use the Proland compilers. As a said, RH 5.9 makes without a problem. RH 6.4 makes all of the objects, but fails in (HowTos)
