I'm new to ubuntu, formally windows 8 disgusted and have switched my other computer over to ubuntu only. The only thing I want to run on wine is to download DB Weave (and possibly for netflix later). I'm very confused with the wine install choices.
Is there a section here where i can ask about the Wine program? i am using Linux Ubuntu 12.10 Quetzal on a Toshiba laptop, on Windows 7 with 19 GB partitioned for Linux. I am dual booting with WIndows 7. Here is some additional info about my system:
Ubuntu 12.10, Memory 3.9GB, processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T600 @ 2.20GHz x2, OS type 64 bit.

When I try to install using the POL present, it gets to the very last step where the VC C++ 2008 installer tries to run, and it puts out this error:

I want to install adobe reader X (10 or 11) in my system. But there is no native application available for Linux. After doing google I have seen that adobe reader 10.1.14 is given gold rating with wine 1.5.19. But when I have tried, the installation is going fine without any error, but I could not find the adobe reader in menu.
When I tried to run winetricks, nothing happened. Tried to run winecfg in terminal, got a message "wine: virtual memory exhausted". Needless to say, I can't run any programs with Wine.
Okay..I am new to linux...and have just found out that installing windows programs can be more difficult than I thought.
Sorry if this has already been asked before, but I'm stuck. I installed Wine from the Ubuntu Software Center, but I'm really not sure how to get my Windows applications to work. I have Photoshop installed on a the Windows partition of my hard drive and I can see it in the Home Folder thing. However, when I click on the Photoshop.exe file, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?
