Trouble with Oracle VM VirtualBox

http://www.ubuntux.org – I am running ubuntu 9.10 two ways: (a) as the host OS on one machine I will call ``Machine A'' (or just "A"), and (b) as a guest OS (in Oracle VM virtualbox 3.2, upgraded today from sun virtualbox 3.1) on another machine I will call ``Machine B'', (or just "B"). The host OS of Machine B is Win XP Pro. On A, I have installed sun virtualbox, and for a while that worked well. On B, within the guest (ubuntu), I had previously installed sun virtualbox 3.1, but had not yet used it, so I uninstalled it, and then installed the latest Oracle VM virtualbox 3.2. I have Virtualbox 4.1.2_ubuntur3859 installed on an Ubuntu 11.10 host, running a guest ubuntu server 10.04 with xfce4 and xorg installed with no-install-recommends.

I have installed guest additions, but the maximum resolution in the display settings is 800x600.

I have a Ubuntu machine and I have a Linux instance running in a Virtual-box on this machine. I need to connect to the oracle instance (through the oracle extension in php) . The extension is running. I am not sure about how to do the port forwarding and if I need to edit the host file. I read the manual, but still no luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Given that Oracle seems to be growing increasingly hostile, it seems that it might be good to migrate off of VirtualBox to KVM/QEMU. However, I have some concerns.

VirtualBox (Oracle's version, not the OSE edition) supports USB devices and setting up a shared directory that I can use to share files between the host machine and the guest machines.

for shame, when I try and log into virtualbox.org forums now, it directs me to an oracle log in sight. Apparently now your oracle account is your virtualbox account as well. It's sad, I never made an oracle account, I wanted to drop in and say hi to Perryg.

OSX is my host OS

I have windows xp and Ubuntu 10.10 on guest OS. They both work great. When I eject USB flash drive from host OS, it appears in windows guest OS but it does not appear in Ubuntu Guest OS.

I never run both guest OS at the same time. its always either or.

I am running, VM virtualbox 4.1.10 and installed latest guest additions and also installed VM virtualbox extension pack.

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 last week. Now I want to use windows 7 on ubuntu via virtualbox. I installed the virtualbox and created a new machine namely 'windows 7', im booting through an iso image... when i start the virtual machine it does not run.

I have a Virtualbox VM running Ubuntu that was started by Vagrant. At some point my ssh session connected to the guest stopped responding. I tried "vagrant halt" from a terminal window on the host (OS X). The shutdown process seemed to also hang. Shutting down the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager doesn't shut down the VMs themselves.
