Trouble choosing notification sounds

http://androidforums.com – Hi, I added a few MP3's from a sound site, however some only work as ringtones but will not work as notifications. I have the two folders- Ringtones, Notifications but there is no choice to "set as" notification" only Phone ringtone, Caller ringtone or Alarm tone. When I go thru settings/sound settings/notification ringtone they do show on the list, but even when chosen the last sound I had plays I have also tried restarting. Do some sounds simply not work well?. Thanks, Jeff (General)

I work on call therefore need to have my phone available to ring during the night. But what I don't need is SMS notifications, Facebook messages etc waking me up.

I've found various Apps but nothing seems to do the trick.

So I added about a hundred various ringtones and sounds to these folders:

/system/media/audio/ringtones /system/media/audio/notifications

But when I go to my menu/sounds to select a new ringtone or notification sound, all the files I added are sitting there in duplicates or triplicates. Or they show up with weird Chinese characters. But when I use Root Explorer, they all show up as single

I just got the HTC One today because the new Blackberry lacked a few options I needed for work, but I can't get the notifications to work in a way that makes sense. I can't seem to get the notification tone/sound to go off for text messages. When you go to "settings"....."sounds"....."notifications and alarms"...

I open up "messages" then hit the "settings" option, then scroll down and "notifications" is checked and I then select my ringtone for whenever I receive a text message. However, upon receiving a text message, I hear the ringtone I selected, but immediately following the selected ringtone, I get another ringtone sound.

I have set a few of my contacts with custom notification sounds, so when I get a message from them, the each have their own ringtone. but for some reason, it is still playing the default notification ringtone for each person. how so I fix this?

I have my preferred ringtone in /SD Card/Media/Ringtones/song.mp3

I've rebooted and rebooted the phone and used "Media Scanner" from the Play store to refresh the media on the sd card so that the system will recognize they are there. Yet the mp3 in the Ringtones folder does NOT show up in the ringtones list. At one point (when I was rooted) it showed up fine.
