Okay, so as the title says, I need to transfer files from computer to computer(laptop-desktop, both have Ubuntu 11.10 installed) without internet.
So today I decided to throw away my old desktop computer, but I had a cruel idea; why wouldn't I use it as my external hard drive...
Well.. here it is:Two machines connected with each other through router. Desktop uses cable, laptop is wifi (intel wifilink 1000 b/g/n). Both have Statler, absolutely same network prefs. I use gftp to exchange files between the machines. Now is the main part - transfer speed desktop-laptop is 5.5MB/s, laptop-desktop is 3.6MB/s. BTW, while desktop allows download and upload, laptop only downloads.
I've got an Ubuntu* desktop, a windows XP laptop, a length of Cat5e Ethernet cable (y'know, the one with the squarish plug, usually blue, modern Internet connections use it), and no internet.
I've got to transfer a big bunch of files (Most of the laptop's hard drive, more than 50GB) over the cable to the desktop, into a specific directory.

I can easily transfer small files from my Windows 8 pc via USB cable on the MTP protocol to my samsung galaxy s3.
We have just moved into a new office and have been given our 'internet connection' in the following form:
One Ethernet cable in the corner of the room
An IP address with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
We have several computers, and are wanting to set up a simple LAN, all with internet access.
Given that our 'wan' cable is an RJ45 Ethernet cable, is it possible to use a normal home router, and plug

Hi all,
We have a requirement to transfer large files from Cosa Rica to our data center in EU. Files themselves are about 2GB each, and we need to transfer approximately 1 to 2TB per day.
Currently, we're considering GridFTP, UDT and FDT for file transfer. The problem with this quantity though, is the internet connection availability in Costa Rica.
