I've got a gigabyte slate tablet running windows 7. I'm a linux fan, and I'd like to install a touchscreen ubuntu variant. Any suggestions would be appriciated.
I have a netbook (an older Asus EEEPC 1005HA) which I want to get rid of Windoze on (I like Windows, but I don't think it works well in a netbook environment).
Basically, my question is which Ubuntu variant will use the least RAM and CPU running idle, and/or the same question except when running Firefox and Libreoffice Writer, say.

I have a (now old) Asus Slate EP121 with a lovely Touchscreen. It seems like several posts here have reported problems with earlier versions of Ubuntu, eg Touch screen support Asus EP121 .
I would love to install it if I can be pretty sure the dual Windows 8 and Ubutunu would work, but I'm hesitant to do all the work without a bit of documentation. Hence this question.
