My laptop: Toshiba Satellite A215-S5825
I have a Toshiba Satellite A135 that will not boot up. This started intermittantly and removing the battery and AC power cord and activating power switch, I could get it going again, but now it won't come on at all. I have all the power lights and the switch light will come on, but I don't hear the hard drive or the fan and I can't open the DVD/CD drawer. Any ideas?
Hello all, I have a cool little laptop that has a rather interesting issue and I recieved no help from Toshiba so I figured I would try here for help.
Hardware is Toshiba Satellite M305D- s4831
Ubuntu 10 Os
4 Gb Memory
The problem.
Ok here is the fun part. The laptop works awesome if plugged into a power source, or off of the battery.
I have a Toshiba Satellite R830 dual-boot Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 7.
On Windows, when I turn "eco mode" on, the fan is much more silent and temperatures are considerably lower. On Ubuntu, eco mode does not work.
Is there an alternative way to "throttle" the processor or limit power consumption with the final aim being to keep temperatures low and maybe extend battery life?

My daughter's 64 bit Toshiba Satellite L655 suffered from the common Toshiba laptop problem of Invisible battery under Fedora 16.
dmesg | grep batt
would report Battery absent. This appears to be common with Toshiba laptops under Fedora, Ubuntu, Centos, Debian, and BackTrack Linux. Online research pointed to custom kernels, which sound like a headache; and a simpler way using Grub2.

My Mom bought a laptop last year, it was a low end laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite C650 I think.
I notice that once the laptop has been idle for awhile, the wireless internet disables, and I have to restart it to get it working again.
The laptop is set up the same as the rest of the computers, and non of the others have any problem with it.
