Maybe this can help: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/2148 So maybe the twisted version 12 in /extra causes the problem?

Your hd probably doesn't spin down when using hdparm -B 254 because the disk is accessed periodically as long as it is mounted, you may want to look at some laptop optimizations/tweaks that let the disk idle for longer and allows it to spin down.

As far as I know they are using version 2.9.11, at least it is what they say in the email with instructions. That version is from May 2008 and doesn't support exporting by name, only port, however newer versions (2.9.17 and newer) can also emulate this.

This just happened to me. Delete the content of "~/.config/deluge/ipc/" (2 zero byte files in my case) and Deluge should start working again.

Your friend is running arch and you say it works fine, you are running ubuntu and it doesn't work, looks a lot like it is a problem with ubuntu. These forums are meant to provide support for arch only, this is not a general linux support forum, that is a rule. Also most users here have no experience with ubuntu so they can't help.
