I'm using slim with xfce4 too.after running [sudo systemctl enable slim.service] I also had to reinstall slim. [sudo pacman -S slim]everything was back to normal after that.I do still wonder how many other services I'm going to have to start in the future.
To sum up what we know:- Your X server is started by slim.- Slim gets you automatically logged into your openbox session and most likely you do not even see the graphal login screen at all.- When you log out, your X server is turned off and never switches on again, and as a result you end up in a TTY console/terminal.The command in /etc/slim.conf that you yourself mentioned: sessionstop_cmd system
Just remove slim. Although slim is very small, no need to purge anything, or to remove slimconf as slim might come in handy later on if You become curious for some other linux desktop environment beside OpenBox. $ sudo apt-get remove slim
$ sudo reboot
I installed the SLiM login manager on Debian Wheezy. According to the SLiM manual, to shutdown the system from SLiM, type "halt" as the username. When I try this, and subsequently entered the root password, however, nothing happens and it just requests the username again. How can I shutdown the computer from SLiM?
