If I unplug the charger while my laptop is on,i don't see any messages but my laptop goes straight into a suspend or hibernate mode and it's a real pain to get it stable again afterwards.
It always suspends (or hibernates)
It always takes 2 attempts to restart it (press power button, it starts and it hibernates again, press power butt

Hi everybody, I've done a clean install of Ubuntu 11.10 on my HP Pavilion dm1 from a USB disk. The installation seemed to work fine. When I power on,
1. I get the flashing prompt on a black screen for a second or two,
2. the usual instructions to hit escape for the boot menu appears,
3. Flashing prompt again for a second
4.
I've been trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 on a laptop for a friend, but I can't seem to get it to display anything. In order to make the installer work, I had to run it in nomodeset mode, otherwise the screen was almost completely black. I could very dimly see the install screen, but barely.
Sometimes when I pick up my laptop, it decides to stop the power supply running. It will just suddenly go black and not save my documents. When it happens, it makes a high pitch power down noise then just goes to black, where I then need to restart it. What could be the problem? Could my battery be loose?
Also, my laptop says, "consider changing your battery". Is it broken? Or faulty?
